    Moxibustion

Moxibustion involves burning the processed and dried herb Mugwort either on the Skin directly, above the skin or on top of a needle inserted into an acupuncture point. This process is completely safe when used by a properly trained professional. Moxibustion done on the skin directly doesn’t hurt or burn, it just creates a gentle warmth at the site of treatment.

The idea of Moxibustion generally is to ‘inject’ energy into the acupuncture point to build the system up; or in Acute or Chronic Injuries, attract blood flow and create a small amount of inflammation to accelerate the healing process of the injured area

Evidence of Moxibustion dates back further than Acupuncture to about 5000 years; This art form, handed down from generation to generation through families throughout history, involves the use of the herb Mugwort. The herb is dried for different lengths of time, depending on the use intended for it. The longer it’s dried, the more potent the heating qualities are and the more ‘pure’ the herb is said to be. Semi dried Moxa, which is still slightly sticky, is used to burn on the needle so it adheres while burning and not fall off onto the patient.

Moxibustion is used mostly to ‘inject’ energy into patients are classified as ‘Deficient.’ Those of you who are deficient will generally be quiet Tired and have Digestive Issues. Moxibustion can also be used to reduce swelling and help to relax muscles that are tight or in spasm.

Moxibustion will generally be combined with needles for treatment; or for those afraid of needles, moxibustion is a great alternative
